Lewis Hamilton urges Ferrari to seize opportunities in title race
Lewis Hamilton has warned Ferrari they cannot afford to leave points on the table if they are serious about mounting a Formula 1 title challenge this season, reports BritPanorama.
Hamilton delivered his assessment after finishing fourth at the Dutch Grand Prix, where his pursuit of the podium was complicated by time spent behind team-mate Charles Leclerc. His frustration was evident both on the team radio during the race and after he exited the car.
The result was another setback for Hamilton’s championship ambitions, especially as several main rivals finished ahead of him. Kimi Antonelli secured second place, extending his lead over Hamilton to 59 points, while George Russell claimed the final podium position, now level with Leclerc in the standings. Lando Norris continued his momentum with a second consecutive victory.
Although Hamilton acknowledged that there were positives for Ferrari, particularly in pit stops and strategy, he stressed the need for greater precision if they want to contend for the title. “The guys in the garage did a good job with pit stops and strategy was generally very good,” Hamilton told Sky Sports F1. “Today was definitely frustrating for me. I’m here to win and I believe this team can win but to win championships you have to pick up every possible point.”
He pointed out that he lost time while following Leclerc, suggesting that this delay impacted his chances of a better finish. “I lost several seconds behind Charles which would’ve made the difference at the end,” he added. Moving forward, Hamilton reaffirmed his commitment to lead the team towards championship contention, noting there are challenges to address.
As Hamilton prepares for the upcoming Italian Grand Prix at Monza, where Ferrari will be racing in front of their home fans, the pressure is on for the Scuderia to perform. “We definitely need to hit the ground running [in Monza] in terms of execution,” Hamilton said, expressing hope for a more competitive outing. “I hope our pace is a bit better, hope we’ll be able to do well. Hopefully fighting towards the front… it would be something special.”
This weekend at Monza will likely prove pivotal for Ferrari as they look to solidify their standing in the championship race. Hamilton’s comments highlight the ever-narrowing margin for error as the season unfolds, reminding teams and fans alike that in F1, every point matters.
