Eddie Howe has decided to step away from football after leaving Newcastle, with fresh details now emerging over the events that ultimately led to his departure from St James’ Park, reports BritPanorama.
The 48-year-old has departed the Magpies by mutual consent after the club identified former Red Bull coach Matthias Jaissle as the man to lead the next chapter of their ambitious project. Howe had initially informed Newcastle’s hierarchy of his intention to leave around two weeks ago but agreed to remain in position until a replacement was secured.
His exit followed an agreement between Newcastle and Jaissle, whose appointment was finalised on Wednesday morning. This change marks the end of one of the most transformative managerial reigns in Newcastle’s modern history. While Howe was committed to guiding the club towards a Premier League title by 2030, frustrations regarding the transfer strategy surfaced during a turbulent summer.
Last season, Howe had held discussions with key figures at Newcastle, expressing willingness to continue his role amid long-term ambitions. However, as the transfer window progressed, the mood shifted, particularly after the £70 million sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and midfielder Sandro Tonali’s £100 million move to Tottenham. Additionally, captain Bruno Guimaraes is expected to leave the club, with Arsenal leading interest.
