Lando Norris secures maiden grand prix victory in Hungary
Lando Norris delivered a commanding drive to secure his maiden grand prix triumph of the 2026 campaign, reports BritPanorama. The McLaren driver’s sheer speed proved irresistible throughout the 70-lap race, even though he complicated matters for himself with a mistake in the early stages.
Max Verstappen crossed the line in second place, whilst Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli claimed the final podium spot in third. Charles Leclerc rounded out the top four, finishing ahead of Lewis Hamilton, whose race was compromised by a pit-lane speeding infringement that resulted in a penalty and cost him a higher finishing position.
Hamilton was informed of his pit-lane speeding penalty over team radio during lap 68 of the 70-lap contest. His response was characteristically blunt: “They’re handing out penalties like crazy!”
The stewards, however, had little discretion in the matter — exceeding the pit-lane speed limit leaves no room for leniency. The penalty ultimately dropped Hamilton behind Leclerc in the final classification, denying him a fourth-place finish.
