Danny Murphy backs England to flourish against Norway in World Cup quarter-finals
Former England footballer Danny Murphy has expressed confidence that the Three Lions will emerge victorious against Norway in the quarter-finals of the World Cup and potentially “go all the way” in the competition, reports BritPanorama.
England’s match against Norway is set to kick off tonight at 10pm, with the winner advancing to a semi-final against either Argentina or Switzerland.
Murphy urged the team to replicate the attitude they exhibited in their last-16 match against Mexico. He spoke exclusively to BetWright, stating: “The resilience and character were there for everyone to see, but the thing I liked most was their attitude to go and try to win the game.”
He emphasised that England’s approach should not be conservative; rather, they should aim to seize the initiative from the start, as they did when they established a 2-0 lead against Mexico. “That says a lot about what Thomas Tuchel is transmitting to this group. It was almost like: ‘If we’re going to lose, we’re going to lose having a go,'” Murphy remarked.
Murphy highlighted the positive mentality shown by England early in matches and noted that it places them in “really good stead.” He anticipates a “brilliant game” against Norway and predicts a comfortable win for England, stating, “I actually think England will win comfortably. My prediction is 3-1.”
When discussing England’s potential to win the World Cup, Murphy reflected on how they have become more confident throughout the tournament. “There’s a resilience and togetherness about this group that you need to win tournaments. As I see it now, I think England will get to the final,” he added.
Tuchel confirmed that all players except Jordan Henderson are fit for tonight’s clash, suggesting a nearly full-strength squad will take the field.
As the tournament progresses, it is apparent that the stakes heighten, and with a blend of confidence and attacking intent, England hopes to convert potential into progress. This evening’s encounter will reveal whether they can maintain their momentum against a formidable opponent.
