Ange Postecoglou appointed as Al-Nassr coach

Ange Postecoglou is back in football management after landing a blockbuster role with Saudi Pro League champions Al-Nassr, reports BritPanorama.

The Australian has signed a lucrative two-year deal with the Riyadh club, where he will manage notable talents including Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Joao Felix, and Marcelo Brozovic.

The club confirmed the appointment on Friday: “Mr Ange Postecoglou has been appointed as coach of the first football team at Al-Nassr Club, with a contract extending for two seasons.”

This significant move marks Postecoglou’s return to management after a nine-month hiatus. His last role was with Tottenham Hotspur, where he was sacked following their Europa League triumph in May 2025. His subsequent brief tenure with Nottingham Forest ended after just eight matches, resulting in his dismissal late last year.

Postecoglou’s move to Saudi Arabia effectively closes the door on speculation regarding his potential appointment as the next Scotland national team manager following Steve Clarke’s departure.

During his absence from management, Postecoglou remained active as a pundit for ITV during the summer’s World Cup coverage. Now, he is ready to return to coaching at the highest level. Known for a successful track record, he previously guided Celtic to consecutive Scottish Premiership titles and enjoyed fruitful spells with Brisbane Roar and Yokohama F Marinos, as well as overseeing the Australian national team.

Postecoglou replaces Jorge Jesus, who left the club after securing the league title, handing him command of a well-equipped squad.

There is also a familiar face in the Saudi league, with his former Celtic counterpart Brendan Rodgers currently managing Al-Qadsiah. This sets the stage for an intriguing reunion when their teams eventually meet.

As he embarks on this latest chapter, one can only wonder how Postecoglou will navigate the challenges of the Saudi league and whether he can replicate his past successes amidst the high expectations of a talented roster.
