Keane and Neville voice concerns over England’s World Cup prospects
Roy Keane and Gary Neville have expressed reservations regarding England’s chances as the Three Lions aim for glory at the upcoming World Cup in North America, reports BritPanorama.
England enters the tournament determined to end a 60-year drought for major trophies, with their last victory recorded in 1966. The squad features notable players including Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, and Morgan Rogers.
However, both Keane and Neville have pointed out significant issues that may impede England’s progress. Keane, speaking to The Sun, highlighted concerns about the team’s defensive capabilities. “I’m worried about England defensively,” he stated. “I can’t shake that off. I just think defensively, in the knockout stages against a top nation, that’s what could hold England back.”
Keane noted that although the presence of a player like Kane presents a chance for success, defensive shortcomings could be detrimental. He anticipates that either France, Spain, or Argentina may ultimately win the tournament.
Neville added his perspective, backing France for the title. He explained, “I think France will win,” citing their adaptability and depth as key factors. He recognised England’s potential but expressed doubts regarding the team’s fitness and preparation, especially given the strain of the season.
He elaborated on his concerns about the heat, suggesting it could impact England’s performance. “The second thing, quite a few of our players that we would rely upon just look a little bit jaded right now,” he added.
Amid these discussions, England is set to commence their World Cup journey against Croatia, followed by matches against Ghana and Panama.
The tension is palpable as fans hope for a successful campaign. However, whether the Three Lions can overcome these challenges remains to be seen. The footballing world watches closely, aware that in sport, nothing is guaranteed, and the margins for success are often razor-thin.
