Lewis Hamilton confirms commitment to Formula One amid retirement speculation

Lewis Hamilton has firmly rejected suggestions he should step away from Formula One, confirming his Ferrari deal runs until at least the end of 2027, reports BritPanorama.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix, the 41-year-old seven-time world champion delivered a pointed message to his critics. “I’m still under contract, so everything’s 100 per cent clear to me,” Hamilton stated. “There’s a lot of people that are trying to retire me, and that’s not even in my thoughts.”

The British driver’s comments appeared directed at former racers and pundits who have questioned whether he should hang up his helmet following a difficult spell at the Italian team. Hamilton’s maiden campaign with Ferrari in 2025 proved troublesome, as he failed to secure a single podium finish throughout the entire season for the first time in his career.

However, the Briton has shown signs of improvement this year, claiming his first rostrum for the Scuderia at the second round in China back in March. Despite this encouraging result, Hamilton has struggled to match the pace of teammate Charles Leclerc at recent events in Japan and Miami.

The British driver currently occupies fifth position in the championship standings, whilst Ferrari themselves have been without a victory since Mexico in October 2024. Hamilton emphasised his unwavering commitment to the sport, insisting his passion remains as strong as ever. “I’m still focused, I’m still motivated. I still love what I do with all my heart, and I’m going to be here for quite some time, so get used to it,” he declared.

The veteran racer revealed he is already looking beyond his current contract, with long-term plans firmly in place. “I’m already thinking of what will be next, and planning for, like, the next five years. But I still plan to be here for some time,” Hamilton added, making clear that retirement remains far from his mind.

Hamilton arrives in Montreal with a record-equalling seven Canadian Grand Prix victories, matching the legendary Michael Schumacher’s tally at this circuit. The Briton will have additional motivation this weekend with his mother travelling to support him, something he has been encouraging for some time. “My mum is coming this weekend, the atmosphere in the city is just electric. The track is one of the best tracks in the world,” Hamilton said.

He described his mother as his “best friend” and noted that her presence at races makes a genuine difference, following their trip together to China earlier this season. As the Grand Prix weekend unfolds, Hamilton’s blend of experience and familial support stands to remind us how personal connections can electrify the pursuit of greatness on the racetrack.
