Xander Schauffele shares insights on Rory McIlroy’s Masters victory

Xander Schauffele has revealed his concerns regarding Rory McIlroy’s performance during the Masters, where the Northern Irishman claimed victory over Scottie Scheffler by a single stroke, reports BritPanorama.

Schauffele, who will compete against McIlroy at the Truist Championship in Quail Hollow, expressed how McIlroy’s abilities at Augusta left a lasting impression. “His best club was his worst club, and he still won the tournament. That’s a little scary, obviously, if you’re competing against him,” Schauffele noted, highlighting McIlroy’s driver as a critical component of his game.

This tournament marks McIlroy’s return to the PGA Tour following his win at the Masters nearly a month ago. In his opening round at Quail Hollow, McIlroy delivered a consistent performance, recording 17 straight pars before finally making a birdie on the last hole, finishing with a one-under 70.

Despite a steady display, McIlroy was not entirely satisfied, missing several birdie opportunities, particularly on the 12th and 13th holes. He remarked, “I wasn’t frustrated, I was hitting good putts. Some days they just don’t want to go in.” His competitive spirit is evident as he prepares for the second day, partnering again with Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose.

As the championship progresses, the dynamics between these competitors will be closely watched, adding another layer to McIlroy’s journey after securing his second consecutive green jacket. The interplay of skill and rivalry gives the tournament an intriguing narrative, reminiscent of how the best players often push each other to greater heights.
