Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler signs new deal until 2029
Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has signed a new three-year deal that will keep him at the Amex Stadium until summer 2029, reports BritPanorama.
The 33-year-old’s previous contract was set to run until 2027, but owner Tony Bloom acted quickly to secure the highly regarded coach amid rising interest from several German clubs, particularly Bayer Leverkusen, who had been closely monitoring Hurzeler’s progress.
Since taking over from St Pauli in the summer of 2024, he has made history as the youngest permanent head coach in Premier League history.
After facing calls for his dismissal from a section of Brighton supporters following a 1-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace in February, Hurzeler’s management has since transformed the club’s fortunes, leading to six wins in nine matches. The Seagulls currently sit eighth in the Premier League, firmly in contention for European qualification with three matches remaining.
In a statement following his contract extension, Hurzeler expressed his affection for the club and the city, stating, “To have this long-term commitment from the club is an honour and one which only reinforces my desire to succeed in delivering on our shared long-term vision.” He highlighted the team’s focus on developing a unique identity and continuously raising performance standards.
Chairman Tony Bloom praised Hurzeler’s contributions, noting, “Since his appointment, Fabian has continued the progress the club has made in recent seasons with consistent on-pitch performances, and he has developed a clear playing identity.” He added that the team has demonstrated resilience and intensity, underscoring the club’s commitment to their shared long-term vision.
Deputy chairman and chief executive Paul Barber echoed this sentiment, labelling Hurzeler an exceptional coach with a bright future. “His work is underpinned by a clear vision, work ethic and strategy,” Barber noted.
