Rory McIlroy joins Travis Kelce on podcast, discusses Masters Champions Dinner and wedding
Rory McIlroy joined Travis and Jason Kelce on their “New Heights” podcast earlier this week, sharing insights from his Masters Champions Dinner whilst drawing parallels to the NFL star’s forthcoming wedding to Taylor Swift, reports BritPanorama.
The Northern Irish golfer, 36, hosted the prestigious dinner last month following his 2025 Masters triumph, where he emerged victorious for the second time in his career.
Reflecting on the evening, McIlroy noted, “It’s an incredible night to be sitting in that room.” He likened the experience to the emotions that Kelce will likely feel during his wedding, stating, “You’re just sitting there and it’s surreal. It’s unbelievable.”
As the conversation progressed, McIlroy also provided practical recommendations for the upcoming nuptials, particularly regarding wine selection, as he shared his decade-long passion for wine collecting. When asked about his wine choice, he confidently recommended French Bordeaux.
Kelce responded with enthusiasm, “On it! Deal. Simple,” indicating his willingness to follow McIlroy’s expert advice.
The tight end and his fiancée Swift are anticipated to wed this year, though specific arrangements remain private, mirroring the secrecy often associated with high-profile weddings. McIlroy’s Champions Dinner menu featured an array of dishes designed to appeal to various tastes, including rock shrimp tempura, grilled elk sliders, yellowfish tuna carpaccio, wagyu filet mignon, and sticky toffee pudding.
“I think everyone enjoyed the dinner,” McIlroy observed. “I tried to do enough dishes that would please everyone.” The golfer, known for his appreciation of wine, emphasized the importance of his wine selection, stating, “I’m a big wine guy I collect wine and I have for, like, the last 10 years, so the wine selection was something that was pretty important to me.”
The tradition of the Champions Dinner invites each Masters victor to host a meal for their fellow competitors ahead of the following year’s tournament, reinforcing camaraderie amongst players.
McIlroy, who married Erica Stoll in 2017 and has a daughter named Poppy, faced personal challenges recently, having briefly filed for divorce in May 2024 before retracting the petition. With two consecutive Masters titles now under his belt following his latest victory, he prepares for another Champions Dinner before next year’s tournament.
As he closed his reflection, McIlroy paid tribute to the unwavering support of his family, stating, “They have to put up with me at home and, trust me, sometimes that’s a tough thing to do. But they have been my biggest supporters.” In a world where personal and professional lives often intersect, moments like these remind us of the people behind the triumphs and the stories that shape them.
