Chelsea’s disappointing defeat leads to sharp criticism
Jamie Carragher has ripped into Chelsea, branding them a ‘broken club’, following their 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Monday, reports BritPanorama.
The Blues were downed via a double from Taiwo Awoniyi, while Igor Jesus also scored from 12 yards before a late Joao Pedro consolation. Chelsea could have gotten back into the fixture sooner, had Cole Palmer not seen a penalty saved by Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels.
Back in the summer, some tipped the west London titans to challenge for the Premier League title after their Club World Cup triumph in the United States. However, their league campaign has been nothing short of shambolic, with Chelsea now sitting in ninth with just three games remaining.
Carragher, speaking on Sky Sports, expressed his dismay, stating: “It’s shocking and it comes from the top. There are five or six really top players on the pitch today and they’ve been beaten by Nottingham Forest’s B team.” He pointed out the lack of connection within the club, adding, “It’s about creating togetherness and there’s nothing there. They look like a broken football club right now.”
Pedro emerged as Chelsea’s sole shining light, impressing since his summer arrival from Brighton with a wonderful overhead kick late in the match that gave the home supporters something to cheer about. Speaking after the game, he admitted that players must take responsibility for their poor form, which now sees Chelsea on a run of six defeats on the trot.
“From the beginning, we conceded too early and against Forest it’s difficult to change the game. I think we should do better,” Pedro stated. He acknowledged the challenges ahead, saying, “We need to find a way to try to not do these mistakes every game.”
Chelsea’s struggles highlight a crucial moment as the club grapples with both its on-field performance and its fractured identity. Perhaps it serves as a wake-up call for a club whose ambitions now seem a distant target amidst a chaotic season.
