More than 3,000 motorists were detected speeding over the Bank Holiday weekend, with 187 people arrested for driving under the influence of either drugs or alcohol, garda figures show.
A motorist was arrested after they were clocked at 181km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N25 at Ballynamone, Co Kilkenny.
In Co Kildare, a motorcyclist was arrested after they were detected driving at 122km/h in a 60km/h zone at Donadea in Co Kildare.
In a post on X, gardaí said the rider was a learner who had no tax or insurance for nine years.
In Dublin, a learner motorcyclist, who was not wearing an L tabard as required, was stopped after they were detected driving at 129km/h in a 60km/h zone on the Navan Road.
The garda road operation was in place between 7am on Thursday 1 May and 7am this morning.
More than 270 Fixed Charged Notices were issued to motorists for using a mobile phone while driving; 340 to unaccompanied learner drivers and 115 issued for not wearing seatbelts.
Gardaí also seized 147 vehicles from learner drivers who were unaccompanied, and 444 vehicles were seized for not having tax or insurance.
Two people were killed in separate incidents on the roads over the holiday weekend.
In Co Roscommon, a woman aged in her 80s died after being hit by a truck at the junction of the N5 and R361 in Frenchpark on 1 May, while in Dublin, a man in his 60s died in a collision in Coolock yesterday evening.
Six people were seriously injured in road traffic incidents over the weekend.
