Wolves set to appoint Rob Edwards as new manager
Wolverhampton Wanderers are poised to announce Rob Edwards as their new manager, securing him on a three-and-a-half-year contract, reports BritPanorama.
The Premier League club parted ways with Vitor Pereira last Sunday following a dismal run of only two points from their first 10 games this season. Middlesbrough, where Edwards has been head coach, accepted a compensation fee estimated between £3 million and £4 million, allowing the move to proceed.
A formal announcement from Wolves is anticipated within the next 24 to 48 hours. Initially, Middlesbrough rejected Wolves’ approach for Edwards, who had only recently joined as head coach in June, succeeding Michael Carrick.
However, after a reconsideration, Boro reluctantly granted Edwards permission to discuss terms with Wolves. They issued a statement noting their disappointment at his desire to leave, especially given he had signed a three-year deal just six months prior.
This managerial transition comes amid Middlesbrough’s solid position in the Championship, currently lying second and in the midst of a promotion challenge. Edwards, a former Wolves player, had made his mark as a manager by guiding Luton Town to the Premier League in 2023, highlighting his credentials despite a challenging period at Luton where he parted ways due to relegation issues earlier this year.
Edwards’ tenure at Wolves represents a significant return, having made over 100 appearances for the club as a player between 2004 and 2008. His extensive experience, both on and off the pitch, including various coaching roles at Molineux, lends an intriguing narrative to this appointment.
As Wolves make this critical decision, the impact of the managerial change will soon become apparent, emphasising how swiftly fortunes can shift in the ever-competitive realm of Premier League football.
