West Brom sack head coach Eric Ramsay

West Bromwich Albion have dismissed head coach Eric Ramsay following a dismal six-week spell that yielded no victories whatsoever, reports BritPanorama.

The 34-year-old’s tenure at The Hawthorns lasted just nine matches, during which the Baggies slid from 18th position in the Championship to 21st. The club now find themselves perilously close to the drop zone, sitting just one place above the relegation spots.

Ramsay had been appointed to replace former Tottenham figure Ryan Mason last month, but his inability to secure a single win proved fatal to his prospects. His final match ended in a 1-1 stalemate against Charlton, encapsulating the struggles faced during his short reign.

Assistant coach Dennis Lawrence has also left the club alongside Ramsay. Prior to his arrival at West Brom, Ramsay had worked as a coach at Manchester United and managed MLS outfit Minnesota United, marking his only previous experience in a head coach role.

The club announced his departure through a notably brief statement, confirming Lawrence’s exit as well. “West Bromwich Albion have parted company with men’s first team Head Coach Eric Ramsay,” read the statement, which also expressed gratitude towards Ramsay and Lawrence for their contributions.

First team coach James Morrison will assume control of the squad on an interim basis while the search for a permanent replacement gets underway. Morrison’s first assignment comes this weekend when West Brom travel to face Oxford United, currently positioned second-bottom in the Championship table.

A positive result could provide much-needed breathing space from the relegation battle, as the Baggies’ precarious league position means they are separated from the relegation zone by the narrowest of margins. Leicester City currently occupy the final relegation spot directly below West Brom.

Ramsay’s spell was marred by some particularly damaging defeats, including a 5-0 hammering at home to Norwich and a 3-0 reverse away at Portsmouth. Morrison will face the challenging task of steadying the ship before a permanent appointment is made.

In a season fraught with tension and high stakes, the effect of a caretaker’s influence on the squad could be profound, illuminating just how pivotal every match is in the Championship’s unforgiving landscape.
