West Brom facing EFL disciplinary action over financial breaches
West Bromwich Albion are facing potential disciplinary action from the English Football League after being charged with alleged breaches of profit and sustainability regulations, reports BritPanorama.

Should any points be stripped from James Morrison’s struggling side, the club would find themselves in serious danger of dropping down to League One. The alleged offences committed by West Brom are believed not to be of a serious nature. Nevertheless, the range of sanctions available to the EFL includes a transfer embargo, financial penalty, or the removal of points from their league tally.
Under normal circumstances, any sporting punishment would be applied in the following season after the breach occurred. However, the club is reportedly seeking to push back any potential sanction until the 2025-26 campaign rather than having it imposed during the current term. Such a delay would prove crucial given their precarious position in the relegation battle.
The Baggies have experienced a tumultuous campaign marked by significant managerial upheaval. Ryan Mason was dismissed from his position in January when the club sat 18th in the division. His replacement, Eric Ramsay, endured a disastrous spell in charge lasting approximately six weeks, during which he failed to secure a single victory across nine matches before being removed from the role. Despite his efforts to steady the ship, West Brom remain firmly entrenched in a desperate fight against the drop. Their latest financial records reveal outstanding loans totalling £53m that require repayment.
The club has been given a fortnight to submit their response to the EFL’s charge. When that deadline expires, only a single fixture will remain in the Championship season. The Baggies will be acutely aware of the precedent set by Leicester City, who received a six-point deduction earlier this term for exceeding permitted financial losses. That punishment has left the Foxes languishing in 23rd place, five points adrift of West Brom’s current total.
