Tiger Woods’ arrest prompts support from Vanessa Trump
Vanessa Trump has publicly declared her support for boyfriend Tiger Woods following his arrest last week, posting an Instagram photograph of the pair during happier times accompanied by two red hearts and the message: “Love you,” reports BritPanorama.
The 50-year-old golf icon was taken into custody last Friday after his Range Rover flipped onto its side in Jupiter Island, Florida, while he was attempting to overtake another vehicle at speed. Officers discovered two opioid pills in Woods’ pocket at the scene.
According to reports, the 48-year-old Trump has been privately urging Woods to obtain the finest treatment available and will not tolerate a recurrence of the difficulties that have plagued his personal life. In a major step back from professional commitments, Woods has announced he is stepping away from professional golf for an indefinite period to concentrate on his health and recovery.
“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today,” Woods stated on Tuesday. “I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritise my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.”
The decision means he will miss The Masters at Augusta next week, a tournament he has claimed five times. A judge has granted Woods permission to travel abroad for rehabilitation treatment as he faces charges of driving under the influence, property damage, and refusing to submit to a lawful test, entering not guilty pleas to all counts. His next court appearance is scheduled for 5 May.
Police have released bodycam footage capturing the aftermath of the incident. In the recording, Woods can be heard explaining what happened: “I looked down at my phone, and all of a sudden… boom!” He described striking a pressure washer trailer before his vehicle overturned. The arrest affidavit states Woods told officers he was looking at his mobile and adjusting the radio when the collision occurred.
During roadside sobriety assessments, Woods was filmed following an officer’s hand movements and touching his nose. The affidavit notes he was “limping and stumbling” throughout the tests, appearing to hiccup repeatedly. “I do believe your normal faculties are impaired and you’re under [the influence of] an unknown substance,” the arresting officer informed him.
This incident marks the fourth accident involving Woods since 2009, beginning with a collision with a fire hydrant outside his home after his then-wife discovered his infidelity. A 2017 incident saw him arrested for DUI after being found asleep at the wheel, while a 2021 crash in California left him with severe leg fractures. Woods and Vanessa began their relationship around Thanksgiving 2024, with Woods having also declined to captain the US team at the 2027 Ryder Cup in Ireland.
Amidst the unfolding drama, Woods’ future in both personal and professional realms remains uncertain, with many speculating on the impacts of this latest incident on his storied career.
