Fury weighs in ahead of comeback fight
Tyson Fury has stepped on the scales at 267.9 pounds ahead of his highly anticipated return to the ring tomorrow night, reports BritPanorama.
The Gypsy King will face Arslanbek Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in front of more than 60,000 fans, marking his fifth comeback from retirement.
Fury has evidently been training diligently during his 16-month layoff, weighing in a full stone lighter than his last fight against Oleksandr Usyk, where he tipped the scales at a career-heaviest 281 pounds. The extra weight in that match did not benefit him in his quest to reclaim the heavyweight titles.
Makhmudov came in close on the scales, registering at 264.9 pounds, meaning just three pounds separate the two heavyweights. This weight gap is notably closer than what Fury is typically accustomed to in his bouts, yet Makhmudov appears enthusiastic about the challenge ahead.
After weighing in, Makhmudov stated, “I’m ready to go. I can’t wait for tomorrow night to make my dream happen. I’ve waited a long time to get here. It’s my dream and my time.”
Fury’s mindset has undergone a marked change after consecutive defeats to Usyk. He reflected on his past, saying, “I was undefeated for 17 years and took it for granted.” He added, “I had two losses in a row; I’m not the hunted now but I am the hunter. It feels great to be the young fresh hunter again. I want to make a statement so I’ve come in nice and light and lean.”
Despite ongoing speculation about a potential showdown with Anthony Joshua later this year, Fury is solely focused on Makhmudov. He affirmed, “Whoever has the belts, I want to get them back.” The undercard features another intriguing matchup with Conor Benn taking on American Regis Prograis at a 150-pound catchweight.
The event promises an exciting atmosphere, as the combination of Fury’s experience and Makhmudov’s hunger for victory sets the stage for a compelling contest this Saturday night.
