Tyson Fury labels family feud a publicity stunt

Tyson Fury has broken his silence on the ongoing row between his father John and former world champion Carl Froch, branding the entire saga a publicity stunt, reports BritPanorama.

This marks the first time the heavyweight champion has addressed his father since John Fury claimed their relationship had been ‘destroyed’ by boxing. Speaking to OOOSCH TV ahead of his comeback bout against Arslan Makhmudov, set for 11 April, Fury dismissed the confrontation as mere attention-seeking.

“To be honest with you, it’s all for views and clicks,” Fury stated, acknowledging that the situation has drawn considerable global attention. He remarked that the Saudis were likely pleased with the publicity it generated.

Fury further highlighted his father’s talent for drawing headlines, calling him “gold at it” when it comes to creating hype. The dispute escalated at a press conference last month, where John Fury launched a tirade of abuse at Froch, shouting insults during the event.

John later clarified that his outburst was triggered by Froch “making videos” about him. The former world champion reacted by accepting an invitation to fight on Tyson’s undercard, insisting it could be his chance to “finally shut this big gobs***e up.”

Froch indicated that talks had taken place regarding a potential bout, yet negotiations faltered over John’s demand for his other son, Tommy, to be included on the fight card, which Froch deemed an obstacle.

“He’s basically put a blockade in there with his son, Tommy,” Froch stated during a YouTube broadcast. “Which is ridiculous because, let’s be honest, no-one gives a s**t about Tommy fighting. Who cares?”

Despite this public back-and-forth, no formal agreement has been reached between the 48-year-old Froch and John, who will turn 62 this year. Fury criticized both parties for their actions and questioned the rationale behind the proposed fight.

Fury also expressed disbelief at the idea of his father participating in a match against Froch, challenging the logic of allowing a 60-year-old man to compete. He accused Froch of trying to elevate his own status by leveraging his father’s name for personal gain.

Ultimately, Fury urged both men to approach the situation with a degree of professionalism. He finished with a call for common sense, suggesting they ought to reconsider their actions in light of the saga’s nature. Such familial and professional tensions often highlight the bizarre intersection of sport and spectacle, reminding fans just how quickly lines can blur in the world of boxing.
