Tuchel praises Bournemouth’s performance amid England squad announcement
Thomas Tuchel has commended AFC Bournemouth for “overperforming constantly” during a discussion regarding Alex Scott’s selection for the England squad, reports BritPanorama.
The England manager has named his team for upcoming World Cup Qualifiers against Serbia and Albania, with Bournemouth midfielder Scott receiving his first call-up. Scott was part of the England U21 team that won the Uefa Euro earlier this summer, showcasing his potential alongside teammate Elliot Anderson.
Tuchel noted the decision to include Scott was driven by Bournemouth’s strong start to the current season, where they are impressively positioned fifth in the Premier League, just one point behind Manchester City in second place.
In a press briefing, Tuchel remarked, “He had an excellent Euros. He won the title, and Lee was full of praise. He did an excellent job in midfield together with Elliot Anderson, who is now a regular starter for us.” He further added that Scott’s consistent performances have justified France’s evaluation of him as a “very regular starter,” contributing to Bournemouth’s success.
The England camp also sees the return of key players Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden, both of whom have been instrumental for their clubs. Discussing their inclusion, Tuchel stated, “Big names, big personalities and big, big talent. It’s excellent to see that both of them are in rhythm, both of them are in form, in shape, contributing to important wins for their teams.”
Tuchel praised Scott’s intensity and commitment, suggesting that now was the right moment to integrate him further into the senior squad. “He puts intensity in and he gets his minutes, so we thought this is maybe the perfect time to reward him and to get to know him and to see what he can bring to our team,” he explained.
The England squad has also welcomed back Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope, making his first appearance since October 2024. Tuchel acknowledged Pope’s standout performances in the Premier League this season and the importance of recognising his contributions to Newcastle’s success.
