Thomas Tuchel names England squad ahead of World Cup
Thomas Tuchel has named his penultimate England squad ahead of the World Cup this summer, with the German making several big calls as he prepares for upcoming fixtures with Uruguay and Japan, reports BritPanorama.
The Three Lions will face these opponents on March 27 and March 31 respectively, with both matches set to take place at Wembley Stadium.
This summer marks Tuchel’s first tournament as an international manager. The 52-year-old aims to guide England to their first major trophy since the World Cup in 1966 and has gone bold with his selections.
Tuchel has named a 35-man squad that includes some surprises. Five goalkeepers are included: Dean Henderson, Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale, Jason Steele, and James Trafford, all vying for a starting position.
In defence, the squad features regulars Dan Burn, Marc Guehi, Ezri Konsa, Tino Livramento, and John Stones. Notably, Harry Maguire has earned a recall following a resurgence under new Manchester United manager Michael Carrick.
Additionally, Jarrell Quansah and Fikayo Tomori have been selected, representing Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan, respectively. The defensive roster also comprises Nico O’Reilly and Djed Spence.
In midfield, Kobbie Mainoo returns after impressing under Carrick, while James Garner from Everton is a surprise inclusion. Other midfield options include Elliot Anderson, Jude Bellingham, Jordan Henderson, Cole Palmer, Declan Rice, Morgan Rogers, and Adam Wharton.
Up front, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has made the squad following his strong form at Leeds, alongside Dominic Solanke as potential backup for Harry Kane, who is poised for a key role after a stellar season with Bayern Munich. The attacking lineup also features Jarrod Bowen, Eberechi Eze, Phil Foden, Anthony Gordon, Noni Madueke, Marcus Rashford, and Bukayo Saka.
