Tiger Woods returns to action at TGL Finals amid injury comeback
Tiger Woods made his return to competitive golf during the TGL Finals, although his team, Jupiter Links, faced defeat in the championship match against Los Angeles Golf Club, reports BritPanorama.
The 15-time major champion underwent back surgery in October and had been sidelined since The Open in the summer of 2024. The highly anticipated finals saw Woods take the place of Kevin Kisner and compete in the second match against Los Angeles Golf Club, which had won the first contest earlier in the week.
Woods and his team suffered a substantial 9-2 loss, resulting in the series being clinched by Los Angeles with one game remaining. The opposing team included notable players such as English golfers Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose.
Following the match, Woods provided an injury update, stating, “It was fine physically. I had a couple of drives I had to hit and a couple of putts… it was a lot of fun to be a part of it. We got our a*** kicked at the end. Three eagles in a row, we didn’t respond. I missed a short one to kind of get it started and give them momentum and we never got it back.” He expressed frustration over the performance, highlighting missed opportunities that could have changed the outcome.
In remarks regarding his future, Woods addressed the upcoming Masters at Augusta National, which begins on April 9. He acknowledged the challenges of recovery, noting, “I’ve been trying, this body doesn’t recover like it did when I was 24, 25. It doesn’t mean I’m not trying; I’ve been trying for a while.” He confirmed that he remains hopeful to compete, despite the physical hurdles he faces.
Continuing his reflections, Woods remarked, “I’ve loved the tournament, I’ve loved being there since I was 19 years old so it’s meant a lot to me and my family over the years and I’m going to be there either way. We’ll see how it goes. I’ll be practising, playing, and keep trying to make progress. It feels good to be back but I would have liked it to be better circumstances. That’s the way sport is – you put yourself out there and sometimes you win, sometimes you lose and you deal with it.”
Woods’ return adds intrigue to an already compelling narrative in professional golf, where his pursuit of excellence continues to resonate. As he navigates the complexities of sport and injury, the golfing world remains keenly aware of both his challenges and his resilience in the face of competition.
