Tiger Woods to celebrate 50th birthday with charity gala
Tiger Woods is set to throw a star-studded celebration at The Breakers in Palm Beach next Tuesday, marking both his recent 50th birthday and three decades of his charitable foundation, reports BritPanorama.
Approximately 300 guests from the worlds of sport and entertainment will gather for the lavish affair on 14 January. The TGR Foundation is hosting the event to commemorate its 30th anniversary since launching.
Woods, who turned 50 at the end of December, chose to keep initial birthday celebrations subdued. This forthcoming gala reflects a blend of personal and philanthropic achievements. Rock star Jon Bon Jovi is set to perform, while fellow golfer Justin Thomas and longtime caddie Joe LaCava are among those invited.
Ernst and Young have signed on as title sponsors for the gathering, which has been officially named “RED: Celebrating Legacy presented by EY US.” This title is a nod to the iconic colour Woods is known for wearing during final rounds throughout his career. Attendees will enjoy a menu inspired by Augusta National, featuring steak, chicken fajitas, and sushi, highlighting Woods’ ties to major golf events.
To honour Woods’ five Masters victories, classic fare such as milkshakes and burgers will be served, further tying the celebration to his illustrious career. The dress code calls for a “touch of red” in outfits, in homage to Woods’ signature Sunday attire, now integral to his legacy.
Cyndi Court, CEO of the TGR Foundation, emphasised the occasion’s significance, stating, “It’s a lot more than a birthday party, and it’s a lot more than an event. It’s an event that’s culminating a year of work, and then launching a year of hard work going forward, and what we’re going to do as we expand and grow.”
The evening aims to raise $50 million (£38 million) to support a new Learning Lab for students. Woods, who has faced multiple injuries in recent years, last appeared at a major at The Open in 2024, making this celebration a notable milestone in his ongoing journey.
In celebration of a complex legacy, Woods continues to blend personal milestones with wider philanthropic goals. How sports continue to intertwine with such personal narratives is a reminder of their ever-evolving nature.
