Tiger Woods hints at potential Masters appearance amid retirement update
Tiger Woods has provided insight into his retirement considerations, indicating a possibility of competing at this year’s Masters Tournament. The renowned golfer, who recently marked his 50th birthday, has not participated in PGA events since July 2024, when he failed to make the cut at The Open, reports BritPanorama.
Injuries have sidelined Woods from the sport for an extended period. The American golfer, who has secured 15 major championships in his illustrious career, discussed his possible comeback during the Genesis Invitational in California, an event he hosts.
This latest period away follows surgery from October, where Woods had a disc in his back replaced, adding to a long list of medical procedures he has undergone. During a press interaction at the Genesis Invitational, he affirmed his ongoing commitment to making a competitive return, with Augusta National potentially serving as the venue for his comeback.
“I’m trying, put it that way,” Woods stated, acknowledging the challenges of his recovery. “The disc replacement has been one thing, it’s been a challenge.”
Woods reflected on entering this new decade of his life, noting, “My body has been through a lot. It’s one of those things, each and every day I keep trying, keep progressing and working on it.” He indicated that while he is physically capable of hitting full shots, the consistency isn’t always there.
When questioned about whether the Masters, scheduled for early April, was “off the table,” Woods replied, “No.” He remains cautious about committing to a specific return date but hinted it could come sooner than many expect.
Furthermore, Woods revealed interest in the United States captaincy for the 2027 Ryder Cup, to be held in Ireland. Although he previously declined the role two years ago due to time constraints, he is now considering the possibility of taking on this leadership position.
As Woods navigates the complexities of his recovery and future commitments, the anticipation around his potential return to competitive golf remains palpable. The road to recovery continues to be as challenging as it is compelling, especially for a figure of his renown in the sports community.
