Tiger Woods faces DUI charges after crash in Florida
A police report has revealed that Tiger Woods was carrying two hydrocodone pills when he was arrested following a rollover crash in Jupiter Island, Florida, last Friday, reports BritPanorama.
The arrest affidavit indicates that deputies found two white tablets marked ‘M367’ in the left pocket of the 50-year-old golfer’s trousers during a search at the scene. Hydrocodone is an opioid frequently prescribed for managing severe pain.
Authorities noted that Woods appeared to be perspiring heavily and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, with “extremely dilated” pupils observed after he removed his sunglasses. During the interaction, he explained that he had been adjusting his radio and using his mobile phone, leading to the collision.
Woods reported that he did not perceive that the vehicle ahead of him had slowed down until it was too late to avoid a crash. His SUV collided with a truck and trailer before overturning onto its side on a residential road. He managed to exit the vehicle through the passenger side window following the crash.
Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek confirmed that no drugs or medications were discovered in the wreckage itself. The affidavit describes Woods’ movements as sluggish and laboured, with deputies observing persistent hiccups throughout their questioning.
When asked if he was taking any prescription medication, Woods acknowledged that he was taking “a few.” He has undergone seven back surgeries and over twenty operations on his leg, which he said affects his mobility, contributing to a limp and sudden ankle stiffness. A breathalyser test confirmed no alcohol was present in his system.
However, Woods did not provide a urine sample when requested for detecting controlled substances, which resulted in an additional charge against him. He spent roughly eight hours in custody at Martin County Jail before being released on bail.
The golfer now faces charges of driving under the influence with property damage and refusing to submit to a lawful test, with a court hearing set for April to address these charges.
In the world of sports, Woods’ career has already encountered numerous challenges, but this incident serves as a stark reminder of the fine line between sporting excellence and personal difficulties, highlighting the ongoing struggles that even the most celebrated athletes endure.
