Tiger Woods plans Augusta return despite injury concerns
Tiger Woods is planning to return to Augusta National next month despite injury issues, reports BritPanorama.
The 15-time major champion has faced a difficult period with his fitness, undergoing his seventh career back surgery in October 2024, which has sidelined him from competitive golf. This surgery followed a torn Achilles tendon sustained in March 2025, preventing his participation in last year’s Masters at Augusta National.
These setbacks have raised significant concerns regarding the future of the five-time Masters champion’s playing career. Nevertheless, sources have indicated that Woods has made it a top priority to compete in April and remains hopeful about participating in the Masters.
His last appearance on tour was during the 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon. The ongoing injuries have intensified speculation about whether the golfing icon can maintain his competitive edge. Recently, fans noticed an update on the official Masters website regarding Woods, stating, “Tiger Woods is making his 27th Masters start in 2026,” while his name also appeared among the 2026 competitors, not in the “Past Champions Not Playing” section.
The updated phrasing and increased start count have sparked optimism among fans that Woods will compete when the tournament commences on April 9. However, despite the indicators from the website, Woods has yet to officially confirm his participation.
After his team, Jupiter Links, reached the TGL final, Woods discussed the unpredictability of his rehabilitation, stating, “I said I’ve been working on it. Sometimes I have good days, sometimes I have bad days. Disk replacement is not a lot of fun.” The tension between hope and apprehension resonates among fans, with one social media comment capturing a mix of excitement and wariness: “The Official 2026 Masters app has been updated. I’m ready to get hurt again.”
As he continues to navigate his recovery, Woods remains engaged with the sport, having co-founded TGL alongside Rory McIlroy, which launched its inaugural season with his participation. He has, however, yet to take part in any matches during the current campaign, instead assuming a managerial role with his team, which includes players like Tom Kim and Max Homa. They secured a place in the finals after defeating McIlroy’s Boston Common in the semi-finals.
As Woods prepares for a potential return, golf fans globally are left to ponder whether the sporting legend can once again grace the fairways of Augusta, a course where his presence has consistently altered the narrative of the tournament.
