Thomas Tuchel extends commitment to England football team

Thomas Tuchel has expressed his views on his England predecessor Lee Carsley following the announcement of a new deal that will see the German remain at the helm of the national team until the conclusion of Euro 2028, reports BritPanorama.

The deal was officially confirmed on Thursday morning, coinciding with the 2026-27 Nations League draw. Tuchel will oversee England as they prepare for Euro 2028, which will be jointly hosted by England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland, with the semi-finals and final taking place at Wembley Stadium.

Initially considered a short-term appointment aimed at immediate success, Tuchel now follows in Gareth Southgate’s footsteps, managing the England team through multiple international competitions. Carsley, who previously served as an interim manager, played a crucial role in helping England secure promotion back to Nations League League A.

Commenting on this management transition, Tuchel acknowledged Carsley’s contributions, stating, “Lee [Carsley] did an amazing job to put us into the first league, so we will have tough competition there to be ready for a home EUROs and this is nothing but a dream come true – now into a World Cup year with England then having the prospect of being a host of the EUROs. That is fantastic.”

Carsley will continue in his role managing the England under-21 squad while supporting Tuchel. The new England manager described his pride in his appointment, emphasizing his appreciation for the players and the national football culture: “I’m in love with the players and the Premier League and the country and how to push the national team and how everyone in the country has its favourite team and pushes their team in club football and it shapes their players.”

Tuchel underlined the importance of focus, explaining his initial hesitation about signing a shorter contract. “The thing that I only signed for 18 months was my wish and I didn’t want to lose the focus towards the World Cup. Now, after more than one year in the job, I can say I will not lose the focus.”

With a managerial resume that includes success at Borussia Dortmund, PSG, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich, the elite manager will now lead England into the World Cup, with fixtures set to be revealed in December. Reflecting on the positive feedback from fans, Tuchel said: “It felt almost like in my childhood days when everyone was excited, everyone was rooting for the team, everyone was pushing and it was such a positive vibe in the country.”

In a world where national pride and football often intersect, Tuchel’s optimism will be crucial as England aims to harness the support of the fans ahead of the forthcoming challenges.
