England calls up Trevoh Chalobah after Marc Guehi injury
England manager Thomas Tuchel has called up Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah to replace the injured Marc Guehi, reports BritPanorama.
The Three Lions boss announced his squad last Friday, but changes were necessitated by injuries sustained over the weekend. Chalobah, 26, joins the squad for the final World Cup qualifying fixtures against Serbia and Albania this week.
Chalobah was first included in the national squad by Tuchel in May and made his debut against Senegal. His promotion comes after Guehi was left on crutches following an injury during Crystal Palace’s recent 3-1 win against Alkmaar in the Conference League, causing a significant setback for both club and player.
Regarding Guehi’s injury, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe provided clarification, stating, “Marc was fouled in the last minute against Alkmaar. It was a knock on his foot, a bone bruise. He can’t even walk at the moment.” This development brings further challenges for Tuchel, already navigating potential absences.
In addition to Chalobah, Tuchel has recalled defenders Dan Burn, Reece James, Ezri Konsa, Jarell Quansah, Djed Spence, Nico O’Reilly, and John Stones. Despite Chalobah’s omission from previous squads, Tuchel highlighted in September that the defender was “unfortunate to be left out for the qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia.”
Chalobah has been a consistent presence for Chelsea, featuring in nearly every match this season, underscoring his growing importance in both club and international contexts.
As England prepares for the matches ahead, the team has already secured qualification as group winners, highlighting the urgency for both tactical adjustments and player integration. With Serbia to face at Wembley on Thursday and Albania in Tirana the following Sunday, these fixtures not only serve as critical qualifiers but also as valuable opportunities for players like Chalobah to establish themselves on the international stage.
In an environment where every selection is scrutinized, Chalobah’s return to the squad could mark a pivotal moment. With the World Cup looming on the horizon, Tuchel’s choices to accommodate injuries will shape team dynamics, echoing the relentless demands of elite football
