Thomas Frank criticises Tottenham fans for booing Vicario
Thomas Frank has criticised Tottenham fans for booing goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario following their 2-1 defeat to Fulham on Saturday night, reports BritPanorama.
Goals from Kenny Tete and Harry Wilson secured all three points for the Cottagers, with Mohammed Kudus’ goal providing a consolation for the home side. Vicario, in particular, faced scrutiny after a critical mistake that allowed Wilson to score into an empty net.
Throughout the match, Tottenham supporters expressed their discontent toward the Italian goalkeeper, especially after the early setback in which Vicario’s error led to Fulham’s second goal. Frank, speaking to Sky Sports, did not hold back in his disappointment regarding the fans’ reaction.
“When you’re down 2-0 after six minutes, there is a mountain to climb,” he remarked. “I didn’t like that our fans booed at him. I’m fine with them booing after the match, no problem, but not during. That is unacceptable in my opinion,” he added.
Despite a lackluster first half, Tottenham improved after the break, creating more opportunities but failing to find the net again. Frank acknowledged the frustration of fans who have not seen their team win at home in a considerable time.
“It is OK that they are frustrated. We all badly want to win, so I’m fine with them booing after the game,” he said. “This result leaves us in a place where we have lost another game. We just need to keep working. The second half was much better and hopefully something we can use to learn.”
For Fulham, the victory was significant, with midfielder Alex Iwobi expressing satisfaction with the team’s performance. He noted, “We wanted to get our first away win and that was the motivation today,” highlighting the positive atmosphere within the squad.
This match underscores the tension surrounding Tottenham’s home form, where frustration is palpable, and decisions within the stadium can echo beyond the pitch. As fans grapple with their emotions, the challenge for the team is to reconnect and restore confidence in front of their home crowd.
