Tottenham’s frustrating draw at Brentford
Tottenham supporters vented their frustration during last night’s goalless stalemate away at Brentford, booing their team at both half-time and full-time as Thomas Frank made his return to the Gtech Community Stadium, reports BritPanorama.
The away fans delivered a damning verdict on their side’s performance by chanting “boring, boring Tottenham” late in the second half. Frank, who departed Brentford in the summer after six-and-a-half years in charge, had secured a 2-0 victory over his former club just 26 days prior.
Spurs struggled to threaten going forward in west London, with supporters also singing the names of departed favorites including Dele Alli, Moussa Dembele, Eric Dier, and former manager Martin Jol. In contrast, Brentford posed the greater threat after the interval. Tottenham captain Cristian Romero was fortunate to escape dismissal following a last-man challenge on Igor Thiago, as he missed a clearance and handled the ball.
The hosts squandered several opportunities to claim all three points, with Keane Lewis-Potter failing to connect properly when well-positioned in the area and Thiago blazing over from close range. Brentford manager Keith Andrews insisted Romero should have received a red card for his challenge, stating: “I’ve had a very clear look at it. I thought it was a red card.”
Frank accepted the criticism from traveling supporters but urged them to acknowledge the defensive solidity his side demonstrated against formidable opponents who have taken points from teams like Aston Villa, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Newcastle at home this season. He stated: “They were not too satisfied, and it’s fair when we don’t hit that top performance overall, but I think it’s double-sided because we need to acknowledge the defensive side of the game, which we’ve done excellently today against a team that scored three against Liverpool and Man United.”
The manager conceded that the attacking output must improve, adding: “I am confident we will make it fluent and better and score enough goals.” Frank also noted how absences have impacted creativity; Xavi Simons is serving a three-match suspension, and Lucas Bergvall is sidelined due to injury.
As the season unfolds, Spurs fans are left to wonder whether their team can find the spark needed to ignite their campaign, reflecting the stark reality of how quickly expectations can shift in football.
