Thomas Frank emerges as potential successor for Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace have added Thomas Frank to their shortlist of potential successors to Oliver Glasner, who has already confirmed he’s leaving Selhurst Park at the end of the season, reports BritPanorama.
Frank was dismissed by Tottenham on Wednesday following a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Newcastle. The north London club had appointed the 52-year-old as a replacement for Ange Postecoglou just months earlier, a move made after Postecoglou had led Spurs to Europa League victory.
Despite the earlier promise shown by Frank, his tenure was marred by poor performances, leading to growing concerns from Tottenham’s hierarchy regarding the team’s lack of progress amid a battle for Premier League survival. Consequently, they opted for his removal.
Meanwhile, sources suggest that Frank may soon return to management after the current season concludes. Crystal Palace’s management is considering him as a suitable candidate to replace Glasner, who announced last month that he would not extend his stay in the capital.
Glasner’s time at Palace has been marked by considerable success, including triumphs in competitions like the FA Cup and Community Shield. However, his tenure has not been without issues; frustrated by the club’s decisions to sell key players, including Eberechi Eze to Arsenal and Marc Guehi to Manchester City, Glasner has pointed to these moves as detrimental to the team’s performance this season.
In terms of Glasner’s future, he has been linked with the Manchester United job, though the club is currently prioritising other candidates. Tottenham is also reportedly considering him for their managerial position, but he finds himself behind several others in the pecking order. Mauricio Pochettino remains the top target for Spurs, despite currently managing the United States national team.
As discussions continue regarding potential managerial shifts, the footballing world is observing closely how these developments may resonate across the Premier League landscape. Amidst the uncertainty, it remains essential to remember the delicate balance between ambition and accountability that governs top-flight football — a reminder of how swiftly fortunes can change in the game.
