Chelsea secures comeback victory over West Ham amid Garnacho’s struggles
Football fans on social media have blasted Alejandro Garnacho after the winger’s dreadful performance in Chelsea’s 3-2 victory over West Ham at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night, reports BritPanorama.
The Blues found themselves trailing 2-0 at the break after goals from Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville. However, after head coach Liam Rosenior withdrew Garnacho, Chelsea rallied to secure all three points with Joao Pedro, Marc Cucurella, and Enzo Fernandez all finding the net.
Garnacho only joined the west London giants from Manchester United back in the summer transfer window, having failed to win round Ruben Amorim during his time at Old Trafford. Yet, he has yet to really get going at Chelsea, and his performance against Nuno Espirito Santo’s relegation-threatened side was arguably his worst yet.
He was substituted after losing possession 12 times in just 45 minutes, with West Ham targeting him as a weak link. Fans on social media have since criticized the Argentina international, who now faces a huge fight to win his place back in Rosenior’s side.
Comments from the online community have been particularly scathing, with one user stating, “Garnacho is the worst player I’ve seen play for Chelsea,” while another added, “Genuinely, Garnacho might be the worst signing we’ve ever made.” Criticism extended to the club’s management for signing the 21-year-old, as one fan declared, “Every single person involved in ok’ing that deal should have lost their jobs.”
Even supporters of Manchester United, Garnacho’s former club, couldn’t resist the chance to poke fun. One fan remarked, “I’ll forever be eternally grateful to Ruben Amorim for getting rid of Garnacho,” reflecting on what they viewed as a beneficial decision made by the club.
Garnacho was once compared to Cristiano Ronaldo during his younger years due to his tenacity, potential, and eye for goal. However, Chelsea has yet to see the best of the winger, who has scored just one Premier League goal so far this season. In addition to Garnacho, two other Chelsea players were substituted as Rosenior sought to turn the game around.
The Chelsea boss refused to lay the blame solely at the feet of individual players after the match, insisting he was pleased with their overall effort and commitment. “My biggest learning is that there’s a spirit and a fight, and a resilience in this group that I really like,” he stated. “The reaction in the second half tells me we’ve got something really special here if I can utilize the squad in the correct way.”
Ultimately, this match serves as a sobering reminder of the thin line between success and failure in football, where individual performances can become a focal point amid collective triumphs.
