Snoop Dogg takes on dual role at 2026 Winter Olympics

Snoop Dogg has landed in Italy for the 2026 Winter Olympics, and he’s not just there to watch the action unfold, reports BritPanorama.

The 54-year-old rapper is serving as both an NBC correspondent and Team USA’s first-ever honorary coach. The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee announced his volunteer role last December, stating that “Coach Snoop” would be celebrating and supporting American athletes off the field of play.

Snoop, a Long Beach native, has already embraced the winter sports spirit by participating in several activities. He began his visit by carrying the Olympic flame through Gallarate as part of the torch relay on Wednesday, a task he undertook with enthusiasm.

His antics have already gained traction online, with footage of him riding a Zamboni accumulating over four million views on TikTok. Most notably, a clip he shared on Friday showed him sliding down the Alpine terrain on a small sled, where he humorously ended up flat on his back in the snow. “What yall think?? How’d I do?” he asked, accompanied by a laughing emoji.

In addition, he participated in curling, throwing stones at the Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium alongside Team USA athletes Daniel Casper and Tabitha Peterson Lovick. They presented him with a “Coach Snoop” jersey after securing a 3-0 victory over Canada, marking Canada’s first defeat of the Games.

Financially, his role is significant. During the Paris Olympics, reports stated that Snoop earned $500,000 per day, plus expenses, with potential total earnings reaching up to $15 million due to a performance-related bonus in his contract. Given his dual role in the Winter Games, his compensation may have increased further.

Nevertheless, Snoop’s involvement has sparked some criticism. Several social media users have voiced their doubts about his suitability as an honorary coach, questioning what expertise he brings to the table. Comments such as, “Are you serious, what’s he coaching?” and “Embarrassing for the USA,” have emerged, highlighting a divided public opinion.

Despite this, Snoop appears unfazed by the backlash. “Team USA athletes are the real stars – I’m just here to cheer, uplift and maybe drop a little wisdom from the sidelines,” he declared upon accepting his role. “This team represents the best of what sport can be: talent, heart and hustle.”

As Snoop Dogg makes headlines at the Winter Olympics, one can’t help but reflect on how the intersection of sport and celebrity continues to evolve, showcasing the enduring allure of both. Whether embraced or critiqued, he brings a unique flair to the podium that underscores sport’s ability to unite diverse talents.
