Scottie Scheffler withdraws from Texas Children’s Houston Open

Scottie Scheffler has pulled out of the Texas Children’s Houston Open, with the PGA Tour confirming his departure from the field on Tuesday afternoon due to family reasons, reports BritPanorama.

The world number one cited that his wife, Meredith, is expecting their second child imminently, prompting the decision to withdraw. Matt Kuchar has been drafted in as Scheffler’s replacement for the tournament at Memorial Park.

This marks a notable absence for Scheffler, who has participated in the Houston event every year since turning professional, achieving runner-up finishes in each of the past two editions. He now appears unlikely to feature in competitive action before Augusta National, where he is expected to arrive following a three-week hiatus from tournament golf.

His last outing was at The Players Championship, where a final-round score of one under par left him tied for 22nd position at five under for the week. This withdrawal follows an unusual dip in form for Scheffler, who finished tied for 24th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, marking a stark departure from his previous high standards.

These results outside the top 20 are a significant change, considering he had recorded top-10 finishes in 19 consecutive tournaments prior to this downturn. His last run of poor form dates back to July and August 2023.

Scheffler opened his 2026 campaign with a victory at The American Express, followed by solid finishes at the Phoenix Open and Pebble Beach before struggling with ball-striking. He and Meredith, who first met in high school, have navigated their relationship through various challenges, including long-distance studies at different universities.

They became engaged in June 2020 and later wed that year, with their first child, son Bennett, born in May 2024 shortly after Scheffler’s second green jacket win at Augusta.

Scheffler has previously expressed his priorities, stating: “My greatest priorities are my faith and my family; those come first for me, golf is third in that order.”

As the golf world awaits his return, the spotlight will naturally shift to how players adapt and compete amidst personal developments, reminding us of the delicate balance between professional ambition and personal life.
