Sam Darnold reflects on Super Bowl victory

Sam Darnold has made his feelings clear following the Seattle Seahawks’ redemption Super Bowl victory against the New England Patriots, reports BritPanorama.

The 28-year-old quarterback’s journey to Super Bowl champion represents one of American football’s most remarkable turnarounds. Once selected third overall by the New York Jets in 2018, Darnold faced a career low following a dismal performance against the Patriots in 2019, when he famously admitted, “I’m seeing ghosts,” raising questions about his capability at the professional level.

Now a Super Bowl champion, Darnold praised his team and acknowledged that his offense could have performed better during the game. He stated, “I can’t say enough great things about our defence, our special teams. I know we won the Super Bowl, but we could’ve been a little bit better on offence. I don’t care about that right now.”

Reflecting on the achievement, Darnold expressed joy for his teammates and coaches, saying, “It’s an unbelievable feeling, man. I’m just so happy for the guys in the locker room, and the coaches, that put in so much effort throughout the whole season. I thank all my teammates, all my coaches, I’ve ever had for always believing in me. I’ve always believed in myself because of my family and my friends, so it’s as simple as that. As long as you believe in yourself, anything is possible.”

Darnold made history as the first quarterback to win the Super Bowl after playing for more than four teams. Having been cast aside by the Jets and Carolina Panthers, he became a reserve in San Francisco before the Minnesota Vikings gave him another chance last season, where they achieved a 14-3 record but ultimately released him following a playoff disappointment. Seattle then became Darnold’s fifth franchise in eight seasons.

His debut campaign with the Seahawks culminated in a victory that carries significant meaning, especially considering Seattle’s painful history with New England from the 2015 Super Bowl, where they squandered a winning opportunity. That interception by Malcolm Butler left lasting memories of regret for Seattle supporters. Darnold’s journey is a reminder of the unpredictability of sport, and how resilience can lead to triumph in the unlikeliest of circumstances.
