Ruben Amorim not surprised by Manchester United sacking, plans to leave UK with family

Ruben Amorim departs Manchester United

Ruben Amorim’s time as Manchester United manager has come to an end, with the club announcing his departure on Monday, less than 24 hours after a 1-1 draw against Leeds United at Elland Road, reports BritPanorama.

The 40-year-old was dismissed following his critique of the club’s hierarchy, during which he expressed disappointment over the lack of support and resources at his disposal. Amorim’s tenure lasted just 14 months, marked by a series of inconsistencies and disappointing results.

Darren Fletcher will fill the role on an interim basis, set to lead the team in an upcoming Premier League match against Burnley. The club’s decision comes amid increasing scrutiny of Amorim’s management, following a string of underwhelming performances.

Sky Sports reported that Amorim was not caught off guard by the club’s choice to terminate his role. He plans to take a short break with his family while considering his next steps in management. Despite recent struggles, he maintained optimism about the team’s future performance and aspirations to secure a Champions League spot.

Amorim believed that Manchester United needed more experienced signings to bolster the squad, reflecting a desire for improvement that goes beyond mere tactical adjustments. He indicated that the managerial situation at United is complicated, with pressure coming from various sources beyond just the coaching staff.

As speculation arises over who will assume the managerial position permanently, Xavi Hernandez emerges as a leading candidate. Other names include Unai Emery and Oliver Glasner, both of whom have garnered significant attention for their recent successes in management.

In reflecting on Amorim’s exit, former United player Rio Ferdinand acknowledged the unexpected nature of the decision but noted that the team’s performance record ultimately justified the outcome. He stated, “His record is the worst of any United manager since Sir Alex Ferguson.”

This development underscores the precarious nature of leadership within elite football and the high stakes that accompany managerial roles at storied clubs like Manchester United. The club now stands at a crossroads, seeking both stability and a fresh vision moving forward.
