Ronnie O’Sullivan prepares for Masters opener

Ronnie O’Sullivan is gearing up for what promises to be a cracking Masters opener against Neil Robertson at Alexandra Palace next Wednesday, reports BritPanorama.

The eight-time champion has dedicated significant time at Celbridge Snooker Club in Ireland, honing his game in anticipation of a record-extending ninth title. A notable turnaround for the 50-year-old, who missed last year’s tournament following a frustrating period marked by a broken cue during the Championship League.

In contrast to last year, O’Sullivan appears in a more positive space as he approaches the highly regarded North London event. Fergal O’Brien, a former player at Celbridge, facilitated practice sessions for O’Sullivan, arranging for him to face coaches and players he works with, such as Antrim’s Jordan Brown and Cork’s Aaron Hill.

“He’s been staying over here the last little bit,” O’Brien told Metro. “Then he was in touch looking for games.” O’Brien notes that the club has an old-school vibe that O’Sullivan seems to appreciate, with its owners ensuring a distraction-free practice environment for players.

During his recent sessions, O’Sullivan’s performance indicates a return to form, even if the season’s overall results have been challenging. The relaxed atmosphere at Celbridge appears to have benefitted him significantly, making his Masters preparations all the more crucial.

Despite having struggles earlier this season, results from recent practice suggest that O’Sullivan is regaining his rhythm. Coaches and peers have praised his work ethic, signaling that he may be ready to compete fiercely in the upcoming tournament.

As O’Brien transitions to coaching after a lengthy 33-year professional career, he reflects positively on his new role, expressing satisfaction with his current path. O’Sullivan’s journey illustrates not only the pursuit of individual excellence but also the impact of supportive coaching and training environments in professional sports.

With anticipation building as the Masters approaches, O’Sullivan’s ambition remains clear: to further cement his legacy in the sport he has dominated for decades. A lead-up filled with intensive training sets the stage for a thrilling opening match.
