Robbie Fowler undergoes skin cancer surgery
Former Liverpool and England striker Robbie Fowler has disclosed that he underwent surgery to remove skin cancer from his face, reports BritPanorama.
The 50-year-old shared details of his condition on social media, including images that showcased his appearance both before and after the procedure. Fowler confirmed he was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma but reassured supporters that the condition was detected in its early stages.
He wrote: “Before and After been a few people lately saying the same thing, go and get those blemishes/spots checked, basal cell carcinoma.” He expressed relief at the early detection, stating, “Caught early thankfully so all good just need to get a club now.”
Fowler, who enjoyed a prolific career in the Premier League, accumulated a total of 163 goals, solidifying his reputation as one of the most lethal finishers in English football. Along the way, he earned recognition with back-to-back PFA Young Player of the Year honours in 1995 and 1996, joining an elite group with only Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney claiming the award in consecutive seasons.
At the international level, he earned 26 caps for England and scored seven times, navigating intense competition from notable strikers like Alan Shearer and Michael Owen. Following his retirement from playing in 2012, Fowler transitioned into management, with his most recent role at Saudi Arabian club Al-Qadsiah before his departure in 2023.
