Brighton breaks losing streak with victory over Brentford
Brighton ended a frustrating six-match run without a victory this afternoon by defeating Brentford away from home, reports BritPanorama.
The Seagulls had not scored since their draw with Everton on 31st January, making this result a significant relief for manager Fabian Hurzeler.
Diego Gomez opened the scoring after Ferdi Kadioglu’s stunning long-range strike hit the bar, with the midfielder scoring from the rebound. Danny Welbeck extended the lead before half-time, capitalising on a poor clearance by Nathan Collins, who had just replaced the injured Aaron Hickey.
It was also a milestone day for 40-year-old James Milner, achieving his 654th Premier League appearance to surpass Gareth Barry’s all-time record.
Over at Villa Park, Tammy Abraham marked his return to Aston Villa with a crucial late goal, securing a draw against Leeds. The striker, back at the club in a £18.2m move from Besiktas at the end of January, scored in the 88th minute after a corner.
Leeds had looked on course for only their second away league win of the season thanks to Anton Stach’s impressive 30-yard free-kick that caught goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez off guard. However, Villa’s dominance led to Abraham’s late equaliser, preserving their position third in the table, just seven points behind leaders Arsenal.
Meanwhile, at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea supporters expressed their frustration by booing the team off after relinquishing another lead. Joao Pedro scored early for Chelsea, who then faced a setback when Wesley Fofana received a second yellow card, reducing the team to ten men for the eighth time this season.
Despite Chelsea’s poor performance, they remained in fourth place, but the late equaliser they conceded to Burnley left fans dissatisfied. Burnley, still in second from bottom, remained eight points from safety, which keeps their survival hopes alive.
Brighton’s vital win allows them to sit ten points clear of the relegation zone, a much-needed boost as they look to build momentum in the remaining matches of the season.
