Premier League sets schedule for April, Arsenal vs Manchester City highlighted
The Premier League has confirmed its television schedule for April, with the highly anticipated clash between table-toppers Arsenal and their closest challengers Manchester City set for Sunday, April 19 at 4.30pm, reports BritPanorama.
The encounter at the Etihad Stadium could prove decisive in determining who lifts the trophy come May. Arsenal currently hold a five-point advantage over Pep Guardiola’s side, though City have a match in hand.
The gap between the two clubs narrowed significantly last month when the Gunners’ lead was cut from nine points following dropped points at Brentford and Wolves.
Sky Sports will broadcast the fixture live. The Merseyside derby will kick off earlier that afternoon, with Liverpool making the short trip to face Everton at 2pm. Both clubs harbour ambitions of European qualification as the season enters its final stretch.
Chelsea will welcome Manchester City to Stamford Bridge a week earlier on Sunday April 12, with that fixture also scheduled for a 4.30pm start. The Blues and Red Devils are battling for Champions League places, adding extra significance to City’s visit to west London. Tottenham’s April fixtures include a trip to Sunderland on April 12 at 2pm, followed by Brighton at home on April 18 at 5.30pm.
Manchester United’s pursuit of a top-four finish will be showcased twice on Sky Sports during April. Michael Carrick’s squad will host Leeds United on Monday April 13 with an 8pm kick-off. The Red Devils then face Brentford at Old Trafford on Monday 27 April, again at 8pm. Between those fixtures, United travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea on Saturday 18 April at 8pm, broadcast on TNT Sports.
That weekend promises a feast of Premier League action, with the Merseyside derby and the title showdown following the next day. The race for Champions League qualification adds considerable weight to United’s remaining matches. Arsenal will entertain Newcastle at the Emirates on Saturday, April 25, at 5.30pm as the title race reaches its climax.
The final Super Sunday of the month features Burnley against Manchester City at 2pm, followed by Brighton hosting Chelsea at 4.30pm on April 26. Several fixtures remain subject to alteration depending on clubs’ involvement in the Champions League quarter-finals, scheduled for April 7-8 and April 14-15, as well as FA Cup commitments.
