Tiger Woods involved in car crash, arrested for DUI
Police have released bodycam footage of Tiger Woods being questioned just moments after his crash on March 27, reports BritPanorama.
The golfing icon was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence following the incident. Footage indicates that Woods was kneeling on the roadside, wearing sunglasses, as he answered questions from officers.
In a marked police vehicle, the five-time Masters champion was seen appearing to close his eyes as the inquiry progressed. According to the sheriff’s office report, he admitted to being distracted by his mobile phone and adjusting the radio before the collision occurred.
Woods recounted, “I looked down at my phone and then all of a sudden, boom,” as the other driver described the impact, stating, “he hit me.” Woods was assessed for injuries at the crash site.
Deputies noted his movements were “lethargic and slow,” with his eyes appearing “bloodshot and glassy.” During the investigation, two hydrocodone pills were discovered in his possession, leading officers to conclude that he was unfit to operate the vehicle. Woods later entered a not guilty plea to misdemeanor charges of DUI with property damage and refusing a lawful test. Although a breathalyser detected no alcohol, he declined to provide a urine sample.
On social media, Woods announced his intention to step away for a period to focus on treatment and his health. “This is necessary in order for me to prioritise my well-being and work toward lasting recovery,” he stated. His decision also means he will not be leading the American team at the 2027 Ryder Cup, a move the PGA of America acknowledged with respect for his commitment to his health.
Woods will also miss the prestigious Masters tournament next week, despite earlier plans to attend. “Although Tiger will not be joining us in person next week, his presence will be felt here in Augusta,” remarked Fred Ridley, chairman of Augusta National.
