Peter Crouch reacts humorously as Erling Haaland channels his robot celebration for Man City victory

Crouch’s iconic celebration echoed by Haaland in City’s victory over Bournemouth

Erling Haaland celebrated his double during Manchester City’s 3–1 victory over Bournemouth by paying tribute to former England striker Peter Crouch with the famous “robot” celebration, reports BritPanorama.

Haaland’s first goal of the match, which helped City return to winning ways at the Etihad, saw him replicate Crouch’s trademark dance, a move that transcended the sport during the mid-2000s. The Norwegian’s gesture delighted fans, many of whom fondly recalled Crouch’s memorable performances for both Liverpool and the England national team.

Crouch, known for his wit, quickly engaged with the homage on social media, cheekily noting, “I walked so they could run,” accompanied by two robot emojis. This response resonated with supporters, further cementing Crouch’s legacy beyond the pitch.

Haaland acknowledged the playful tribute, stating on Instagram, “Guess I couldn’t hide it any longer…” confirming the celebration was indeed a deliberate nod to Crouch. The original “robot” was first introduced in 2006 when Crouch performed it after scoring against Jamaica, quickly evolving into a cultural phenomenon that showcased his blend of talent and humor.

Beyond the celebration, Haaland’s skills were evident as he helped City secure a critical three points after a disappointing loss the previous week. The addition of 19-year-old Nico O’Reilly’s goal capped off an impressive display for City, which had briefly allowed Bournemouth to equalize through Tyler Adams.

Reflecting on the match, Haaland expressed the importance of the win, stating, “It is good to bounce back after losing a bad away game.” He emphasized his role within the team: “I want to help the team become better, that is my job.”

As City prepares for their upcoming Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund, they will look to maintain the momentum gained from this victory. Meanwhile, Bournemouth will aim to regroup and secure a much-needed result when they face Aston Villa.

In a sport where legacies are often measured by goals and trophies, Crouch’s enduring impact, even post-retirement, is a testament to how football’s cultural fabric can intertwine with personal narratives — a reminder that even in the heat of competition, the echoes of the past can still bring a smile.
