Ruben Amorim sacked as Manchester United coach

Manchester United has parted ways with coach Ruben Amorim, the latest addition to a growing list of managerial casualties at the club, reports BritPanorama.

Amorim’s tenure, which began with high expectations in November 2024 as the successor to Erik ten Hag, has ended following a series of disappointing performances and an outspoken critique of the club’s transfer policy. His comments, suggesting a lack of support from the board, ultimately led to his dismissal.

The 40-year-old struggled to extract the best from his players, frequently failing to implement his preferred tactical approach. His criticisms came at a time when the team was underperforming, which likely factored into the decision to terminate his contract.

As Amorim joins a list that includes notable names like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Jose Mourinho, former United player Paul Parker has directed sharp criticism towards key figures in the squad. He specifically named Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, and Diogo Dalot, expressing disbelief that they continue to be regular starters despite their inconsistent performances.

Parker stated, “I am staggered that the likes of Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire are still at the club, and playing week in week out when they aren’t injured,” highlighting the urgency for accountability among the players.

He continued to assess the current squad’s dynamics, indicating that relying on younger players was becoming necessary. He noted the promising performances of Ayden Heaven, urging that more youth should be given opportunities.

Regarding Bruno Fernandes, Parker suggested that the club should consider offloading the Portugal international, despite his significant contributions since joining from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020. “Do you play Bruno Fernandes if the club’s going to go forward? You don’t,” he remarked, reflecting the need for a strategic shift within the club.

In his assessment, Parker expressed concern about the overall style of play at United, particularly commenting on the current state of the Premier League, which he described as uncompetitive compared to previous seasons. “If Manchester United get it right now and did something positive, they could actually compete to win the league,” he stated.

As the club seeks a new direction following Amorim’s departure, questions loom over the responsibilities of the board. Parker noted, “They’ve got to take a lot of the blame because initially they knew what they were dealing with when he was selling himself to them to get the job.” The managerial carousel at Old Trafford reflects ongoing tensions regarding club strategy and player performance, indicating that further changes may be on the horizon.

As the dust settles on Amorim’s tenure, there’s little doubt that the road ahead will demand not just tactical adjustments, but a collective awakening from players who must now reckon with their contribution to this ongoing saga at Manchester United.
