Manchester United’s Patrick Dorgu sidelined by injury

Manchester United have suffered a significant setback with confirmation that Patrick Dorgu faces roughly 10 weeks on the sidelines due to a hamstring problem, reports BritPanorama.

The 21-year-old Danish winger picked up the injury during Sunday’s thrilling 3-2 triumph over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. The news represents a considerable blow to the Red Devils’ recent resurgence under interim manager Michael Carrick, who has guided the club to consecutive victories.

Dorgu had been instrumental in both wins, establishing himself as a key figure in Carrick’s attacking setup. The injury occurred with approximately 10 minutes remaining when Dorgu pulled up whilst pursuing a long ball. He received treatment on the pitch before being substituted, with Benjamin Sesko coming on in the 81st minute.

According to The Athletic, medical assessments are ongoing, though early indications suggest an extended absence for the in-form player. Speaking after the match, Carrick expressed hope that the problem was merely muscular fatigue. “He obviously came off with, hopefully, a little bit of cramp, hopefully, it’s nothing worse. At this stage, it’s hard to tell, so we’ll just have to wait and see. Hopefully it’s not too bad,” Carrick stated. Subsequent scans have unfortunately revealed the more serious hamstring issue.

Dorgu has arguably emerged as the standout performer since Carrick assumed temporary charge of the club. The 21-year-old had previously operated as a left wing-back under former manager Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation but has flourished in a more advanced position on the left flank.

His spectacular long-range strike against Arsenal came just five minutes into the second half, putting United 2-1 ahead with a powerful effort that showcased his attacking capabilities. The goal was his third of the campaign, adding to an earlier strike in the 2-0 victory over Manchester City. He has also contributed three assists across 22 Premier League appearances this season.

The projected 10-week absence would see Dorgu miss eight Premier League fixtures during a demanding period for the club. United face challenging encounters against Aston Villa, Newcastle, and Tottenham during his time on the sidelines. Should the recovery timeline prove accurate, the home fixture against Leeds on April 11 represents a realistic target for his return to action. A trip to Chelsea follows the week after.

The Red Devils will be hoping their Danish winger can regain full fitness for the season’s final stretch as they pursue qualification for the Champions League. Manchester United’s higher-ups reportedly set the goal for Champions League qualification upon Carrick’s arrival.

Injuries have become a cruel part of footballing folklore, but the impact of this one resonates particularly as United strive to solidify their position in the league while juggling the pressures of a relentless schedule.
