Netflix viewers frustrated by boxing event coverage
Netflix viewers have vented their annoyance on social media with the streaming platform’s coverage of Jake Paul’s clash with Anthony Joshua in Florida, reports BritPanorama.
The fight is scheduled for the early hours of Saturday morning, with ringwalks expected at around 3.30am BST. However, the platform faced criticism due to early technical issues during its initial coverage window starting at 1am.
Viewers reported sync issues between the audio and video as presenters and guests spoke, leading to frustration online. One viewer expressed, “You would think they would do several audio tests prior to one of their biggest productions but nah they just decided to wing it.” Another added, “Sorry Netflix but leave live stuff to the professionals, can’t even get the audio and mouth movement the same.”
Further criticism emerged as users commented on the poor audio quality, with one stating, “I’ve heard better audio on a Motorola Razor.” Despite the issues, the bout remains a significant event for both fighters, with Paul seeking to establish his presence in boxing after his sole defeat against Tommy Fury in 2023.
For Joshua, a two-time world champion, the decision to face Paul has raised eyebrows, especially as he has not fought since his controversial loss to Daniel Dubois in September 2024. Joshua’s assertive remarks about the fight, declaring he would ‘kill’ Paul, have sparked criticism from some quarters as he aims to prove his capability in what may be the latter part of his career.
Joshua maintained, “It’s my job, we fight. We have a licence to kill. Whatever happens, happens – as long as my hand is raised, that’s what’s important, respectfully.” His comments underline the intensity and seriousness with which both fighters are approaching this unique bout, blending celebrity and competition in an arena that continues to challenge perceptions in boxing.
As these events unfold, they serve as a reminder of the complex nature of modern boxing, where the line between sport and spectacle becomes increasingly blurred.
