Mohamed Salah expresses regret to Liverpool teammates
Mohamed Salah has expressed regret to his Liverpool teammates following the contentious remarks he made after the club’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United earlier this month, reports BritPanorama.
The Egyptian forward sparked considerable controversy on 6 December when he told reporters he felt he had been “thrown under the bus” by the club, while also questioning his future at Anfield. In the aftermath of these comments, a heated discussion unfolded within the squad.
Midfielder Curtis Jones revealed that Salah addressed the dressing room directly, affirming that the squad remained united despite the public outburst. “Mo is his own man and he can say his own stuff. He apologised to us and was like, ‘If I’ve affected anybody or made you feel any sort of way, I apologise’. That’s the man that he is,” Jones detailed.
Jones noted Salah’s positive demeanor during the conversation, saying he was still the “exact same Mo” with a smile on his face. This response came as Salah faced frustration over being benched for three consecutive matches, reflecting his competitive nature.
Following the controversial remarks, Salah was omitted from Liverpool’s squad for their Champions League victory against Inter Milan on 9 December, although the club did not take formal disciplinary action against him. He returned as a substitute in the subsequent weekend’s 2-0 victory over Brighton, contributing with an assist for Hugo Ekitike’s second goal.
Salah is now representing Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations. Manager Arne Slot addressed the situation at a press conference, confirming that the matter had been resolved. “I said last week that actions speak louder than words and we moved on,” Slot stated, emphasising that he would avoid discussing Liverpool matters while Salah focuses on international duties.
Jones reiterated the close-knit environment of the squad, akin to a family unit. “Families argue and fight, but they always stick as one,” he remarked, encapsulating the spirit within the team and highlighting that despite tensions, the sense of unity remains strong.
