Carrick praises Manchester United after victory over Tottenham
Michael Carrick has praised his Manchester United players following a 2-0 victory over Tottenham at Old Trafford, marking their fourth consecutive win in the Premier League, reports BritPanorama.
The match pivoted when Cristian Romero was shown a red card in the 29th minute. United capitalised on their numerical advantage, with goals from Bryan Mbuemo and Bruno Fernandes securing all three points.
This victory continues United’s upward trajectory, as they have now won all their matches since Ruben Amorim’s recent departure. The team is also on track to qualify for Champions League football, a key target set for Carrick.
United’s opener resulted from a well-executed set-piece, with Fernandes assisting Mbuemo’s strike. Carrick acknowledged the behind-the-scenes work done by former teammate Jonny Evans, stating, “I wouldn’t say set piece coach, Johnny has been doing a lot of work with the players so that is the reward for that.”
With Carrick at the helm, the team has triumphed over Manchester City, Fulham, and now Tottenham, with a notable away win against Arsenal. As calls for him to be appointed as the permanent manager grow, Carrick remains focused on the task at hand.
Discussing the challenge of playing against ten men, Carrick remarked, “When it goes to 10 men it’s always quite a tricky situation. We looked dangerous right from the start of the game which was really pleasing again.” He also noted Tottenham’s quality, saying they played commendably during the first half.
United captain Bruno Fernandes expressed satisfaction with the win and his goal, reflecting on his technique and the importance of closing out matches effectively. He stated, “We needed to close the game. We knew we were very in control of the game but at any moment it can change.”
Fernandes emphasised the importance of maintaining focus as the team strives for continued success, saying, “When we win games the confidence goes higher and higher. It is very important for us to maintain the focus and not overdo it now.”
The match not only highlighted United’s recent form but also reinforced the significance of composure under pressure, reminding fans how quickly fortunes can shift in football.
