Menna Fitzpatrick aims for 2030 Winter Paralympics after strong showing in Milan-Cortina Games

Menna Fitzpatrick concludes Paralympic career with strong performance

Britain’s most decorated Winter Paralympian secured fifth position in the women’s para alpine skiing slalom during her concluding appearance at the Milan-Cortina Games, reports BritPanorama.

Menna Fitzpatrick completed the course in one minute and 36.38 seconds, bringing her third Paralympic campaign to a positive conclusion. Throughout the Milan-Cortina Paralympics, Fitzpatrick recorded consistent performances across multiple disciplines, achieving sixth place in both the giant slalom VI and Super G events, while finishing ninth in the combined alpine.

The slalom competition unfolded across two runs on Saturday. Fitzpatrick’s initial descent clocked at 47.37 seconds secured her fifth place, although her second attempt was marginally slower at 48.30 seconds, placing her sixth for that run. Overall, her combined time was enough to maintain her fifth position.

This positive outcome came after Fitzpatrick made a significant decision to forgo anterior cruciate ligament surgery in December, prioritising her participation in these Games over immediate medical intervention. The six-time Paralympic medallist now looks ahead to the 2030 Winter Games, set to take place in the French Alps.

Reflecting on her experience, Fitzpatrick noted, “Do you know what, not massively,” when asked about her future intentions. She expressed a desire to train for the next Games, stating, “I do want to go to France if I can in 2030.” Fitzpatrick previously claimed slalom gold at the 2018 Paralympics, which established her among the elite in para alpine skiing.

As she steps back from this chapter of her career, Fitzpatrick’s journey serves as a testament to resilience and dedication in the competitive world of sport. Her determination to perform at a high level, despite physical challenges, highlights the unyielding spirit that defines elite athletes. In a landscape where personal and professional boundaries blur, her narrative underscores the notion that commitment to one’s goals often comes with sacrifice and tough choices.
