Martin Chivers, one of Tottenham Hotspur’s most celebrated forwards, has passed away at the age of 80, reports BritPanorama.

The Southampton-born striker carved out an extraordinary career at White Hart Lane, establishing himself among the finest players ever to don the famous white shirt. His goalscoring prowess was nothing short of remarkable. Across 415 matches for the north London club, Chivers found the net on 202 occasions. This outstanding tally places him third in Spurs’ all-time scoring charts, a testament to his enduring legacy.

The club confirmed the news of his death with profound sadness, describing him as “one of the all-time greats.” Tottenham moved swiftly to honour their former hero following the announcement. In their official statement, the club said: “It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of our legendary former striker, Martin Chivers. We extend our deepest sympathies to Martin’s family, friends and former team-mates at this incredibly sad time.”

Beyond his achievements in club football, Chivers also represented England with distinction, earning 24 international caps and registering 13 goals for his country. As a mark of respect, Spurs players will wear black armbands during their Premier League encounter with AFC Bournemouth this evening. The managing side remarked on their website: “Our players will wear black armbands during this evening’s fixture against AFC Bournemouth. Rest in peace, Martin. One of the all-time greats.”

Reactions have poured in from the football community, with former Spurs star Steve Archibald expressing his condolences on social media.
