The FA Cup fourth round delivers dramatic upsets

The FA Cup continued in dramatic fashion as football fans were treated to four afternoon matches featuring another shock result, reports BritPanorama.

Mansfield Town once again produced an upset, defeating Premier League side Burnley 2-1 at Turf Moor. This victory follows their previous success in knocking out holders Crystal Palace, demonstrating Mansfield’s resilience in the tournament.

Burnley took the lead in the 21st minute when Josh Laurent finished off a well-crafted team move, cutting inside both defender and goalkeeper before scoring into an unguarded net. However, Mansfield responded effectively after the interval. Rhys Oates equalised in the 53rd minute, heading home at the back post.

The decisive moment came 11 minutes from time when Reed curled a superb free-kick from 25 yards, bypassing the defensive wall and leaving goalkeeper Weiss with no chance. The result marked another painful blow to Burnley manager Scott Parker.

In other matches, Manchester City overcame local rivals Salford City with a 2-0 scoreline, easily securing their spot in the fifth round. The Premier League team took an early lead through a deflected goal from Ait-Nouri. City maintained control of the game, with Guehi extending their advantage late in the second half.

Norwich City also advanced, defeating West Bromwich Albion 3-1. After Paris Maghoma put Norwich ahead, West Brom equalised through Maja, but late strikes from Chrisene and Toure sealed the win for Norwich.

Southampton faced a tougher challenge against Leicester City, drawing 1-1 after regulation time and requiring extra time to find a winner. The Saints initially led through a penalty from Larin, but a remarkable overhead kick from Oliver Skipp levelled the match. Ultimately, James Bree’s goal in the 109th minute secured Southampton’s advancement.

As the FA Cup progresses, the surprises continue to capture the attention of fans and pundits alike, highlighting the unpredictable nature of knockout football. With the next round approaching, clubs will be keen to build on their momentum or make corrections from their recent performances.
