Luke Littler aims for £3 million in career earnings while prioritizing financial prudence

Luke Littler rules out private jet purchase despite nearing £3 million milestone

Luke Littler has ruled out purchasing a private jet despite being on course to become the first darts player to accumulate £3million in career prize money, reports BritPanorama.

The teenage world champion, who turns 19 later this month, emphasized the importance of managing his finances sensibly rather than indulging in extravagant purchases.

“No, probably not,” said Littler when asked about buying his own aircraft. “You need to save your money. I can’t go splashing it now.” However, he added a hint of possibility for the future, stating, “But who knows? In a few years time when I’ve hopefully earned a bit more I can maybe sort one out.”

Littler’s impressive earnings have been significantly boosted by his recent triumph at Alexandra Palace, where he captured the inaugural £1million World Darts Championship prize pot. This victory marked his second world title and pushed his total career winnings to £2,770,500, solidifying his position at the top of the PDC Order of Merit.

Should his current form persist, the Warrington thrower could breach the historic £3m threshold as early as March, a milestone no darts player has previously reached in prize money alone. He has made his return to competitive action this week at the Bahrain Darts Masters, easily dispatching veteran Paul Lim in his opening fixture.

As Littler advanced, he reflected on Lim’s long-standing career, expressing admiration for the Singaporean legend, who at 71, continues to compete at a high level. “Paul’s doing really well; I think he’s been doing well for many, many years,” Littler noted. “He’s just class and I wonder when he’s going to retire, but he’s still going very strong in the practice room as well.”

Littler’s next challenge will come against Gerwyn Price, who progressed to the quarter-finals with a 6-4 victory over Japanese crowd favourite Motomu Sakai. Meanwhile, the Bahrain event welcomed the unexpected comeback of iconic referee Russ Bray, who had left the PDC two years ago. His return delighted fans who had feared he might never return to officiating.

In darts, where fortunes can change overnight, Littler is making a name for himself not only through his prowess on the oche but also in how he navigates the pressures of newfound wealth and success. The sport never stands still, and as Littler seeks to write his own legacy, the mix of determination and caution may define his path forward.
